If you installed Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 this week, or more likley had it installed for you as part of the latest automatic Windows updates from Microsoft, you may find that it has now become your default browser.

This is a fairly sneaky move by Mirosoft, particularly as there is nothing in the installation routine that asks if you want IE to become the default browser.

If you normally use Internet Exploer then this is not a problem but if you use Firefox, Safari or Chrome you will probably want to restore them as the default.

For Firefox you can follow these instructions:

1. Close Internet Explorer if it's running, then start Firefox.

2. Click Tools, Options, then click the Advanced icon in the Options toolbar.

3. Click the General tab if it's not already selected, then make sure Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup is enabled.

4. Click Check Now, then confirm that you want to make Firefox your default browser.

5. Click OK and you're done.
